Greeks show off swagger for support
Fraternities, sororities pair for Stompfest

The National Pan-Hellenic Council (NPHC) and the Collegiate Pan-Hellenic Council (CPC) will team up to present Stompfest at 7 p.m. Wednesday in Rudder Auditorium.
Stompfest is an event in which seven fraternities and sororities from the NPHC and eight sororities from CPC put on a mixed production of step dancing and skits.
"It's a way for us to network, to cross the lines of each council and show how we do our stuff because it's so different," said Vice President of Phi Beta Sigma Stephen Anderson, a senior agricultural leadership and development major. "It makes everyone culturally aware of the other organizations."
Each sorority from CPC is paired up with a fraternity or sorority from NPHC, which teaches them pre-choreographed routines in a 2 1/2 week period. The sororities will be judged on appearance, originality and performance.
"A lot of the judging comes from how well we learn the signature steps and traits of the specific fraternity or sorority that's teaching us," said Kappa Alpha Theta Amanda Alcott, a junior kinesiology major.
Each sorority has specific characteristics that coincide with this year's theme, "Swagger Like Us."
"I've never done anything like this, so learning the cultural aspect of it and then competing in it is what my favorite part has been," said Kappa Alpha Theta Amy Waughtal, a freshman mechanical engineering major. "It's what I'm most proud of."
The proceeds go to the NPHC, who will use the money to support its umbrella programs such as the "Uniting Divine Sistahs" retreat, which aims to empower black freshman women.

Tickets are $9 if preordered at boxoffice.tamu.edu or $11 at the door.
