The National Pan-Hellenic Council brought sororities and fraternities together to work it out for the 11th annual Stompfest Wednesday night in Rudder Auditorium.

"The entire auditorium was packed," said Vice President of Phi Beta Sigma Steven Anderson, a senior agricultural and development major.

First place went to Kappa Kappa Gamma, second place went to place Kappa Delta and third went to Gamma Phi Beta.

"[Kappa Kappa Gamma's] choreography was definitely superior," he said. "The night went off well, everybody enjoyed the performance. There was so much excitement."

Kappa Alpha Theta Amanda Alcott, a junior kinesiology major who competed in the show said her favorite part of doing the show was her group's first step practice.

"None of us have ever stepped before," Alcott said, "so it was entertaining to watch everyone try to do something they'd never done before with people they never met."

Stompfest was created to educate other cultures of the origins of African-American culture and the art of stepping. Stepping originated in Africa as a way for people to show pride in their community.

"We went out there with confidence and smiles and even though we didn't place we had so much fun."

Kappa Alpha Theta Amy Waughftal, a freshman mechanical engineering major, said she was proud of what they were able to do in the show.

"I think we really went off of the crowd and the adrenaline," she said. "My favorite part was performing because it was an audience I'll probably never get again in my life. People were screaming our names and our organization so it was really exciting."
