In the first game, the Aggies defeated the Cowgirls 2-1 behind good defense and timely hits.
A&M sophomore pitcher Rhi Kliesing recorded her 15th win of 2009, pitching all seven innings. She finished the game with four strikeouts, five hits and two runs allowed.
Oklahoma State took an early lead in the top of the first inning behind the base running of sophomore third baseman Mariah Gearhart. Gearhart opened the game with an infield single and stole second base during the next at bat. She scored from second base on a run down ground out at second base to put the Cowgirls up 1-0.
A&M initially struggled to score, recording two hits and no runs in the first three innings. The Aggies had leadoff runners in the first two innings, but left both runners on base.
Sophomore outfielder Kelsey Spittler broke the mold for A&M with a two-RBI, one-out single to center field. Spittler's knock scored sophomore pinch runner Andrea Tovar and junior infielder Alex Reynolds. The two runs gave the Aggies a one-run lead for the rest of the game.
Kliesing held the Cowgirls to no runs and two hits after the fourth.
"It was great to see Rhi get out there and throw the first game so well," said A&M Head Coach Jo Evans. "We really needed that win, we're coming off of some big losses so it was nice to see her get us on the right track."
But Oklahoma State brought a different approach in the second game, winning the bout in five innings with a run-rule score of 13-1.
Oklahoma State scored a quick nine runs off of seven hits in the top of the first inning to lead off the game. Freshman first baseman Julie Ward smashed a three-run home run over the right field fence in the inning.
