Wednesday's opinion column only deepens the "division" and reinforces the stereotype the student body holds of the Corps as elitists who care more for their title, "Keepers of the Spirit," than actually having the passion to keep the Spirit alive. As a three-year member of Fish Camp and Class Councils, I am deeply offended by the remark that Cadets "are trained to know the history and traditions of this University…something non-regs cannot match." I have had a real passion while at A&M to learn our beloved traditions and to teach them to incoming freshmen, to preserve the Aggie Spirit. And in saying that "we cannot keep this University going with 2,000 members," the author implies that the only REAL Aggies are those that live on the Quad and wear khaki. Don't get me wrong. I have a deep respect for the Corps and what they've done for A&M, especially for the Cadets serving our country in the military. But if the Corps indeed "shares an outlook," and this article espouses that outlook, then I say that a serious attitude adjustment is needed to "start changing [our University] for the better," and it's NOT the 46,000 non-regs who need it.
