A&M coaches honor basketball players

With the National Basketball Association draft in his future, senior Josh Carter was awarded the Acie Law IV Most Valuable Player Award on Monday at the Texas A&M men's basketball team's 2008-2009 awards banquet. Carter led the Aggies to their fourth consecutive second round appearance in the NCAA tournament, a fourth place finish in the Big 12, and a 24-10 overall record. The Dallas native finished his career with a school-record 299 3-pointers and a school-record .418 3-point field goal percentage. He is the only player in A&M history to play in four NCAA tournaments and the only player in school history to score 1,500 points with at least 500 rebounds and 200 assists.
Junior Cinemelu Elonu received the Vernon Smith Rebound Award. Elonu and sophomore B.J. Holmes shared the Sonny Parker Most Improved Player Award. Senior Bryson Graham was given the Shelby Metcalf Most Inspirational Player Award. Junior Donald Sloan received the David Edwards Assist Award. Junior Derrick Roland was given the Dominique Kirk Defensive Award. Sophomore Shawn Schepel earned the Dr. John Thornton Academic Award.
