Casey Schaefer, Weston Wilcox, Reagan Thompson, John Busch and Travis Kennedy were chosen as the 2009-2010 yell leaders, with the five of them collecting more than 82,000 votes.
Once student body elections were over, the three senior yell leaders interviewed with a select committee of staff and student leaders for the position of Head Yell Leader - with Schaefer, a junior finance major, securing the position.
Senior yell leaders Schaefer and Wilcox, who were junior yell leaders, were experiencing the election process for a second time. This year's election was a different experience, said Wilcox, a junior education major.
The three spots for senior yell were uncontested in 2008, but in 2009, six names appeared on the ballot. Cody Howdeshell having to drop out from the race for junior yell changed the dynamic of the 2009 election as well, candidates said.
"Some things came up that we didn't know about," Wilcox said, "and we had to start a whole new campaign from scratch. So, obviously, this has been the longest four weeks of my life."
Schaefer said he is relieved the rigorous campaign has ended, and counts himself lucky to be chosen alongside the others.
"You just have to trust the student body, because they know what they want," Schaefer said. "The four guys that I get to serve with this year are just incredible."
The student body also voted in Reagan Thompson, a junior agricultural economics major, making him one of the few non-reg yell leaders in Texas A&M's history.
"It's a dream come true," Thompson said about his unique position. "It's something I've wanted to do all my life. It doesn't matter what you are involved in at A&M, we are all Aggies and I am excited to represent all Aggies."
