The Texas A&M Young Conservatives of Texas put on a Tax Day Taxed Enough Already Party, or TEA Party, Wednesday in Rudder Plaza, following the example of similar events across the nation.

"We wanted to be a part of this historic event, this historic movement, and we wanted students to know about it, we wanted students to be informed about our tax system and learn more about it," said Tony Listi, a senior political science major and the chapter chairman of YCT. "So we decided to set up our own TEA Party on campus."

At the campus TEA Party, students had access to fact sheets and displays provided by YCT, and free tea was donated. There was an opportunity for students to sign a letter to Rep. Chet Edwards, D-Texas, addressing the tax system and their discontentment.

"It's good to show that college kids are very active in what is happening with our taxes," said Hannah Palmer, a freshman finance major. "Even if you disagree with the letters or what they are doing, it is a point of generating debate and therefore becoming more active."

The TEA Party featured a dunking booth set up for students who signed the letter to "dunk the IRS," which many students said was the main attraction.

Bryan and College Station had a similar TEA Party Wednesday at Tanglewood Park in Bryan. Grassroots organizer of the event, Nancy Coppock, said she applauded the efforts of YCT on campus.

"I think these guys are awesome, they are very brave to make a stand about the future of the nation," Coppock said. "They are doing on [the A&M campus] what I am doing for Bryan, College Station."
