On a humid night at Brazos Valley Bank Ballpark in Bryan, the Bombers continued their winning ways with a 4-3 exhibition win over the US Military All-Stars.
Sitting at 8-6 on the year and in third place in the Texas Collegiate League, the Bombers welcomed in the 18-1 US Military All Star team. The Military All Stars were in the middle of their annual 100 game "Red, White, and Blue" tour that leads them all over the country to face collegiate and professional teams.
"The Bombers were glad to have the chance to host the traveling U.S. Military All-Stars team yesterday," said media relations director Ben Krauss. "Both teams enjoyed the opportunity to demonstrate their devotion to our country while being able to show their skills on the baseball field."
The night started out perfectly for the Bombers as they took a 3-0 lead in the second inning after Kyle Atkins hit a two run double. Atkins later scored on an RBI by Clifton Thomas.
However, things got a little sloppy for the Bombers in the top of the fourth. Two throwing errors by third baseman Nick Fleece and a dropped foul pop up by Alan Harris led to two unearned All Star runs.
With the game tied at three in the top of the ninth, the All Stars threatened with two men on but couldn't get anybody in after Geoff Lomax closed the inning with a much needed strikeout.
In the bottom of the ninth, the Bombers provided the home crowd with a case of the dramatic. Thomas had another big hit when he led off the inning with a triple, and with the infield playing in, Joe Craven hit a single to drive in the winning run, in walk-off fashion.
"It was an exciting game for Bombers fans as the team showed its resiliency by collecting the game-winning hit in the bottom of the ninth inning," said Krauss.
The Bombers, in this young season, have been paced offensively by Texas A&M's own Brett Parsons whom leads the team in average, on-base percentage, and slugging percentage. Both Drew Flaniken and Garret Fanchier have two wins on the mound with a 1.64 and 1.65 earned run average respectively.
The Bombers continue their home stand on Wednesday and Thursday night as they welcome in the East Texas PumpJacks.
