A sophomore general studies major, 20, was killed Tuesday afternoon when he ran a red light and collided with a turning sedan at the intersection of Joe Routt Boulevard and Wellborn Road, preliminary reports say. There were no other injuries.

Authorities say the driver of the sedan, also a student, was turning left under a protected green arrow from northbound Wellborn Road to Joe Routt Boulevard when the motorcyclist changed lanes from behind a stopped white vehicle in the southbound lane of Wellborn Road and ran the red light, colliding with the sedan.

All lanes have been reopened.

This truly is a tragedy, and my thoughts and prayers go out to his family and friends. However, the facts remain that this young man is dead simply due to a combination of his speeding, reckless driving, and running a red light. (Continued…)
