A rainy Friday afternoon meant a lower than usual number of students in the Herman F. Heep Building on West Campus when a fire alarm sounded.

Everyone was evacuated and the College Station Fire Department was called. In less than an hour, the sixth floor laboratory fire was extinguished and the situation under control, the battalion chief on scene said.

CSFD is running a series of checks because the fire was in a laboratory to ensure the building is 100 percent safe for students.

Officials said the building should reopen soon.
